To quote from our Grading Page – What is a Ligne Bretagne Collector? These handmade pipes sit at the top of the Ligne Bretagne brand, offering quality workmanship in creative styles derived from classical pipe shapes. They’re created using the same briar I use for Talbert Briars, and go through the same processes in order to be fully comparable smokers and beautiful pieces of art combined. Each pipe is priced individually based on grain and complexity of design, with prices typically running between $350 and $500.
I’ve commented in prior descriptions about the fun we’ve been having working with these small WW2-era briar blocks. Pipes in general were smaller back then and these blocks are cut small, meaning the overall size of the pipe will be limited. However, this seems to be a great spur to creativity, and our recent series of these “fantasy” renditions of popular classical shapes has been a hit for us. They’re short pipes with bigger bowls than it might seem, rendered in lively and organic shapes partly inspired by nature and partly by pure imagination.
This fantasy poker is a great example of the series, with finely detailed surface carving that flows with the overall shape, adding a lot of life and movement to a pipe that’s already quite dynamic on its own. One can follow the linework as it curves from bowl bottom to bowl rim and the back in upon itself, with a neat spiral pattern across the bowl top and a flowing “water around a rock” pattern on the underside around the stamping area. It almost seems to be moving even as it’s sitting still.
