To quote from our Grading Page – What is a Ligne Bretagne Collector? These handmade pipes sit at the top of the Ligne Bretagne brand, offering quality workmanship in creative styles derived from classical pipe shapes. They’re created using the same briar I use for Talbert Briars, and go through the same processes in order to be fully comparable smokers and beautiful pieces of art combined. Each pipe is priced individually based on grain and complexity of design, with prices typically running between $350 and $500.
I’ve commented in prior descriptions about the fun we’ve been having working with these small WW2-era briar blocks. Pipes in general were smaller back then and these blocks are cut small, meaning the overall size of the pipe will be limited. However, this seems to be a great spur to creativity, and our recent series of these “fantasy” renditions of popular classical shapes has been a hit for us. They’re short pipes with bigger bowls than it might seem, rendered in lively and organic shapes partly inspired by nature and partly by pure imagination.
We’ve gradually been adding to our tooling and some finer hand cutters resulted in an even sharper, finer pattern of linework on this pipe – Check out the close-up photos to see how it wraps around the bowl and moves with the curves of bowl and shank. Even more so than previously, it looks almost like finest black raven feather, especially in how it ripples and shines when turned under a light source. I liked the smooth green rim on the last Collector so this one has a polished rim also, though this time it’s unstained natural briar.
