Here’s a finish I’m thinking of as ‘Triple Yellow’. The idea batted around in my mind for a while that I wanted to see just how yellow I could get a pipe without bleaching it first. That’s the trick with yellow – Ordinary briar color is tan and so adding yellow usually just gets you a sort of golden brown. The finish involved first applying a contrast stain, then adding a different color of yellow between every sanding stage to produce the nice warm sunshine glow of the thing. It really brings out that bird’s-eye and makes the whole pipe look positively cheerful.
