Continuing with the Halloween theme in this combined smooth/rusticated finish. I’m really enjoying these and I’m glad they’ve proven to be popular, as I wasn’t sure at all if anyone would like them when I did the first one. In this case, I wanted a stronger contrast between the color tones of the smooth bowl and the carved portions. I opted to go with a muted yellow tint over a chocolate contrast stain to bring out the sharp points of the bird’s-eye that covers the smooth area. I’m pleased – The lighter smooth color really helps the black “tendrils” stand out.
