We’re closing in on the last couple of May’s Shape of the Month now, just this one and one more after. I knew these last two would both be smooths and wanted to spend a little extra time on them – This pipe, for example, is another instance of “$200-ish Ligne Bretagne with $600 finish”. It took several days to finally achieve the contrast-stained flame look I wanted, with a lot of drying time in there for penetrating colors, but I hope the result is worth it as it really makes the flame grain of the briar ‘pop’ while lending the whole pipe a really rich, dark red that won’t all rub off on your hands like so many reds do. It actually looks better in person than in the photos – Our studio photo lights seem to have given it a bit of a lighter color tone than the deep red it has in real life.
I’ll be sad when we finish out this shape, but at least we’ve got one set aside for this December…
