Here’s another of May’s “Shape of the Month”. I just posted the short-stemmed version of this pipe the other day, and now here’s the long-stemmed variant. The longer stems make this shape extremely graceful, but unlike many “long thin” pipes, they have thick-walled bowls for both hand-holding and clenching comfort. I got a bit wild with the rustication on this one, doing a lot of curves and twists in the carving pattern which fans out from the bottom of the bowl, loops back around the body, and then curls inward on itself back onto the shank. It’s a dramatic effect, and while most folks don’t tend to show off the bottoms of their pipes, I had to include a pic of the underside in the shots above just because it’s so neat looking.
