We drilled and prepared a bunch of these bent Canadians as the Ligne Bretagne “Shape of the Month” for March, but then got rather sidetracked by the combo-hit of opening this new website AND the covid-19 virus situation. As a result, the March pipes are carrying on into April a bit, and here is a beautiful example of the design. I gave this one a more detailed carving pattern using some finer cutting tools, with the result being that the finish resembles soft satin fur even more than usual. The carving texture runs in many different directions, curving all around the bowl and the long oval shank. I intended to finish it black from the start because the jet black finish looks good with these white marbled stem rings, but I decided essentially on a whim partway through to leave the bowl rim smooth and unstained for contrast.
