As I mentioned in the description for LB #1975, I'd just recently mixed up a new application of a natural briar coloring to play with, PLUS found an intriguing yellow tint to use for a topcoat, so this pipe became a natural playground for combining the techniques to see what sort of finish might result. I'm pleased, it turned out pretty nice IMO, especially considering that super-tight grain like this isn't actually the best showcase for contrast stains since the overall pipe ends up looking pretty dark. This, however, looks pretty darned nice, particularly for a pipe with a $200 pricetag. The bowl rim bird's-eye is just one highlight on a pipe with lots of grain to enjoy. Overall, it reminds me a bit of the sort of pipe that James Upshall might have sold in the 90's, which makes me happy.
